Boukje was born and raised in the Beemster, a historic Dutch polder surrounded by water and nature. This environment, defined by the rhythmic change of seasons and a vibrant natural palette, instilled in her a deep connection to her surroundings and an early flair for creative problem solving. These formative years remain a core influence on her work today, particularly in how she explores the profound connections between people and their environments.

After earning her Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Arts in Utrecht as a painter, Boukje followed her enduring passion with materiality to Sweden. There, she pursued a Master’s in Textile Design at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås, where her practice truly blossomed. In 2024, she was named a finalist for the prestigious Dorothy Waxman International Textile Design Prize, and in 2025, she contributed to the design team responsible for the new United Nations tour guide uniforms.
Boukje’s work exists at the intersection of art, spatial design, and fashion. She believes that a multidisciplinary perspective - combining a deep understanding of technique, narrative, color, and texture - is essential to the soul of a piece. This background, combined with her technical expertise and inquisitive approach, allows her to offer a layered, distinctive contribution to the contemporary textile landscape.
